‘Ghana Oscar’ Films Will Get Festival Distribution – Leila

Leila Djansi

The Foreign Language Oscar Committee in Ghana says films that will be submitted to the committee for 2018 Oscar consideration will also have the privilege of getting festival distributions across the world.

A committee member, Leila Djansi, who made the announcement at Saturday’s one-day Oscar workshop in Accra, said the move is to help Ghanaian filmmakers connect with other filmmakers around the world and push their productions out there while they also make some good money.

“At least to make some good money and then you can go ahead….if you win an Oscar for Ghana …hey that will be exciting,” Leila said.

The Saturday’s workshop was to educate film stakeholders on the processes of submitting film to the Oscars. It was attended by a number of Ghanaian film crew, including actors, directors and producers. The committed presented 90 rules to help stakeholders to submit their films.

The basic rule of the Foreign Language Oscar category is that the film must be in a Ghanaian language, meet laid down technical specifications and capture the true essence of Ghana, as well as meet world filmmaking standards.

Following the guidelines of the academy, the committee is tasked to select from open submissions one film to be the official film from Ghana at the awards. The rest of the films would be channelled through film festival, according to Leila, to help local filmmakers gain international audiences.
