Woman Busted With Wee Alcohol, Toffees

Afia Pokua and Issah Yaw

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 54-year-old woman, Afia Pokua after several sachets of hard liquor suspected to have been laced with cannabis were seized at her home at Old Tafo Mile Three, a suburb of Kumasi.

Her arrest followed a tip-off by members of the community, who were upset by her trade in the narcotic substances.

Some quantities of substances believed to be cannabis and wee toffees were seized from her room during a search conducted by the law enforcers.

ASP Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, told the media that the suspect admitted that she wanted to distribute the narcotic drugs, and mentioned one Issah Yaw, as her source of supply.

According to the police spokesperson, Afia Pokua led the police to arrest Issah Yaw, 56, at his home at Old Tafo Mile Three on Monday, July 10, 2017 around 12:30 pm.

They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the exhibits retrieved from them had been sent to the forensic laboratory in Accra for confirmation and analysis.

She admonished the general public to be wary of the kind of milk toffees and biscuits they buy on the market, suggesting that they could be laced with wee.
