South Dayi Gets DCE At Last

Ernest Patrick Kojo Mallet

After several failed attempts to get a chief executive (DCE) for the South Dayi District, the assembly members have finally settled on Ernest Patrick Kojo Mallet.

The 29 out of 30 District Assembly members, who partook in the confirmation exercise, endorsed President Akufo-Addo’s nominee – Mallet – after an election that was supervised by the District Electoral Officer.

Prior to his nomination, Madam Ella Boateng, who was initially nominated by the presiden, suffered an outright rejection three times as she failed to meet the two-thirds required from the total votes casted.

Madam Boateng’s rejection came with mixed reactions. While some residents of the district and members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) described it as unfortunate, others also saw it as no surprise as they felt she was not fit for the job.

For some reason, she had stiff opposition from some party members, including executives in the constituency, who held press conferences and protestations to prevent her from getting confirmed. She was even described as an alien to the party.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa who supervised Mr Kojo Mallet’s endorsement on Wednesday on behalf of government, commended the assembly members for putting the past behind them and decided to forge ahead in unity for development.

He urged the DCE to bring his experiences to help the district to develop.

Dr. Letsa tasked all to join hands in the development of the district.

Mr. Ernest Patrick Kojo Mallet thanked the president and the assembly members for giving him the opportunity to serve the nation. He pledged to work with the assembly members, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to move the district to a higher height.
