Konkomba Youth Agitate For District

MP for Yunyoo, Hon. Naabu Joseph

With some few days left for the Legislative Instrument (LI) to mature to back the creation of new metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the country, Konkombas in the Bunprugu-Yunyoo District have called on government to create a new district for them.

The Konkombas, who constitute about 76.84 percent of the total population in the district, are calling on government to carve a new district from the existing Bunprugu-Yunyoo District for them.

According to them, the Konkomba community has all the requisite facilities.

The leader of the Konkomba youth, Mark Puekapen, told DAILY GUIDE that they would oppose any move by government to create the new district for the Mamprugus, claiming that the Mamprugu people in Yunyoo do not have the all the requisite facilities.

He claimed the Mamprugus already have a district, adding that it would be proper to give Konkombas a fair share of the national cake by creating a district for them.

“If government does not give us a district, at least the district capital should be sited in the Konkomba community.”

Mr. Puekapen called for peace, stability and equality in the distribution of projects.

Meanwhile, the coalition of Konkomba youth has petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC), Speaker of Parliament, Local Government Ministry and the Presidency over the matter.
