NMJ, organisers of Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAAs), are calling for entries for the 2018 edition of the award ceremony which celebrates achievements in the Africa’s movie industry.

The fourth GMAA will come off in Accra on June 2, 2018 after nominees’ announcement in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

It will be held under the theme: ‘changing the negative narrative of Africa through film’.

The award ceremony was launched at Adenta in Accra on Thursday, with a call on filmmakers to submit their feature, short, animation and documentary works for consideration in various categories of the awards.

Deadline for submission is April 1, 2018. Filmmakers will have to fill up forms on the GMAA’s official website www.goldenmovieawards.com to follow steps as listed on how to submit movies.

Speaking at the launch on Thursday, Director of GMAA, Mimi Andani Michaels, disclosed there will be a number of activities to empower filmmakers in the award’s home country Ghana. These include visiting filmmakers in Tamale and Kumasi to interact with them.

She also said a three-member jury from Nigeria, Kenya and Cameroon will join already existing Ghanaian jury.

“Organisers of the awards from research and experience realised how limited tickets becomes for the filmmakers and actors when the big day nears due to the fact that tickets are available for purchase for the general public and movie lovers, hence the decision to cancel ticket sales to increase the number of filmmakers and actors who have the chance to be part of the experience. However, few slots will be left for the general public who can apply to attend on www.goldenmoviewards .com,” she added.

The Golden Movies Awards Africa is an annual award scheme that celebrates outstanding achievement in African television, digital media and film. This year’s event will take place on June 2.
