Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Arts & Culture and Ghana Cocoa Board, has launched the 2019 edition of the National Chocolate Day celebration.
Dubbed ‘My Chocolate Experience’, the event is being organised to boost the domestic consumption of Ghanaian chocolate and other cocoa-based products.
The celebration will also be used to promote tourism and give a healthy orientation to the celebration of Valentine’s Day in Ghana.
Some of the activities lined up for the celebration include the National Chocolate Day health walk scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2019. The walk will start from Aye Mensah and end at Aburi Gardens.
Other activities include regional tourism awards ceremonies to be held in some selected regional capitals to honour stakeholders who have contributed immensely towards the development of the tourism sector.
The National Chocolate Day celebration will be climaxed with National Tourism Awards on March 22 in Accra.
A speech read on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of COCOBOD by Emmanuel Opoku, Deputy Chief Executive in-charge of Operations, explained that the day was set aside to create awareness on the consumption of Ghanaian chocolate and other cocoa products.
The CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyeman, bemoaned that “recently, there was a report that cocoa trees are under threat from global warming. Per what the scientists are saying in 2015, if we are not careful cocoa trees will become a thing of the past.”
