The Northern Regional capital , Tamale has witnessed an overwhelming facelift ahead of the 62nd Independence Day Celebration.
Checks by DGN Online has revealed that most of the streetlights in the metropolis have been fixed.
Potholes and other related road issues within the main principal street have been worked on by contractors.
Some parts of the streets and buildings have been painted with beautiful colors with the streets decorated with the colours of the Ghana flag.
There will be a final rehearsal parade at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium today ahead of the parade on Wednesday.
Meanwhile , the Chairman of the planning committee, Mr. Lord Comey, has indicated that this year’s Independence Day Celebration will not be held in the various districts in the Northern Region.
According to him, the decision is to enable the various schools in the districts to participate in the 62nd Independence Day Celebration which will be held in Tamale in the Northern Region.
12 schools and 30 contingents made up of 18 contingents from the security services have been selected in the Northern region to participate in the Independence parade.
Mr. Comey disclosed that the president of Niger ,Mahamadou Issoufou will be the special guest of honor for the 62 Independence Day celebration.
Meanwhile work is progressing steadily at the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium in Tamale for the National event.
The 20,000 capacity stadium has been given a facelift to suite the occasion.
DGN Online gathered that business is booming and the local economy is witnessing great injection of cash and investment.
Reports suggest that hotels, guest houses, and apartments in the region have been fully booked by visitors who have arrived to witness the 62nd Independence Day Celebration.
According to Lord Comey, over 150 VVIPS of African decadent expected to grace the occasion, have already arrived in the country.
Since the announcement of Tamale as the venue for the 62 National Independence Day celebration, the choice of the president has been welcomed and praised by many and has been described as a good move to strengthen and deepen the roots of democracy and decentralization.
Activities preceding the main events which included a health walk was led by the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Salifu Sa-eed on Saturday in the principal streets of Tamale, the regional capital.
The Northern Regional Minister, said sanitation conditions in the region has been greatly improved in both Sagnarigu Municipality and the Tamale Metropolis.
He entreated residents to ensure that they keep the region clean during and after the 62nd Independence Day Celebration.
