Central Region Ready For 37th Farmers Day Celebration

The Central Region is 90 per cent ready with its preparations towards the 37th Edition of the National Famers Day celebration, to be held in Cape Coast, the regional capital.

The celebration, to be climaxed on December 3, would be hosted at the Adisadel College Park, which is receiving a massive facelift with most hotels fully booked ahead of the event.

This includes a week-long agricultural exhibition and trade fair in addition to the Farmer Market initiative where farmers would present their produce directly to the consumer.

This is to give the opportunity to consumers to buy at low prices, with good quality assurance and to allow traceability.

The National Agricultural Fair and Exhibition is aimed at providing all 16 regions the opportunity to showcase their rich culture, agriculture produce and machinery.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the Guest of Honour at the event, to be chaired by Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area.

It is on the theme: “Planting for Food and Jobs; Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana.”

Regional Director of Agriculture, Dr Peter Omega, said awardees on arrival would be made to go through a health screening exercise at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

He said the Ministry of Food and Agriculture would present four awardees from each region together with others who would be awarded by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the Ghana Cocoa Board.

Industry players, awardees and all other stakeholders would be welcomed by the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) at the RCC.

The award winners would have the opportunity to visit four industrial sites, notable amongst them being the R and B Farms and the Twifo Oil Palm Plantation.

The ADB would engage them in a forum on December 2 to sensitise them on some technical issues and how they could access funds to grow their businesses.

Dr Omega said the Grand Durbar would be unique and would provide farmers the opportunity to learn from each other and urged all to take active part to promote good networking.

More than 100 farmers, fishermen, extension officers and others are expected to be awarded during this year’s event.
