Facebook Reckless Driver Arrested After Road User Reported Him To Police

A truck driver, Awal Mohammed has been arrested by the police after a road user tagged the Ghana Police Service while reporting him for reckless overtaking on Facebook.

The complainant took to his Facebook and shared a photo and video of the vehicle driver with the registration number GW-402-V as recklessly overtaking another long vehicle.
The incident was said to have happened on December 30, 2021 at the Kwahu Fodoa on the Kumasi-Accra highway while the driver driving facing oncoming vehicle.

According to the road user, Awal Mohammed pushed other vehicles off the road in order to gain space to overtake another long vehicle.
The Facebook user lamented that the actions of Awal could have led to a fatal accident.

Shortly after his post on Facebook, the Ghana Police Service launched investigations into the matter and apprehended Awal Mohammed, and charged him for court.

He was charged with driving on the wrong side of the road, contrary to Regulation 106 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations (RTR) 2012 L.I 2180.

Also, he was charged with careless and inconsiderate driving contrary to section 3 of Act 683/04 as amended by 761/08.

As if that was not enough, he was further charged with causing road obstruction, contrary to Regulation 170 of the Road Traffic Regulation 2012, L.I 2180 and causing danger to other road users, contrary to section 22 of Act 683/04 as amended by 761/08.

The police commended the concerned citizen for helping the police by volunteering information to ensure the laws are being enforced.
