George Mireku Duker
The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, and MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, has awarded eleven teachers in the constituency for their selfless service and dedication in their profession.
The maiden edition of the awards is to recognise and motivate the efforts of teachers in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.
Eleven teachers were recognised and awarded from four (4) categories.
The winners for the primary category included Sampson Joe Abban (best teacher), Francisca Asante and Love Amewudzo.
In the JHS category, Lucinder Benyiwa Aggrey emerged as the overall best teacher while Eric Danso and Faustina Arkoh emerged 1st and 2nd runner up respectively.
In the SHS category, Andrew Amoah Donkor was adjudged the best teacher while Vida Asare emerged as the best teacher in the headteachers category. Other award winners in the headteachers category included Vivian Aku Kudzoszi and Yaw Beyuo, while Shardrack Oteng was adjudged the overall best teacher.
The overall best teacher received a brand new vehicle worth US$18,000.
According to the Deputy Minister, Duker Teachers’ Awards Scheme was instituted to recognise and motivate hardworking teachers in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.
He said “my vision to institute this awards scheme stems out from the various sacrifices made by teachers in this municipality and elsewhere to impact our children towards their bright future. I am personally aware of the various challenges faced by our teachers and I believe that, the institution of this award scheme is one leg towards recognising and motivating their efforts and supporting their needs.”
He mentioned that, apart from facilitating scholarships for students in the area, he has also collaborated with government and also embarked on other infrastructural projects in the municipality since he assumed office.
