The logs on some cars
BOGOSO, A mining town in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region, was on Saturday struck by disaster leading to the death of one person.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred when timber logs being carried by a truck, fell off and landed on some stationary vehicles including a taxi cab.
Initial reports said the driver of the taxi cab died on the spot.
However, it was later gathered that the deceased was a passenger whose Ghana Card, retrieved from him bore the name, Kapire Yaw-Kwaakye. He was 43.
Sources had it that the truck, which was moving from Prestea to Bogoso, had the chains which had been used to fasten the logs to its trailer loosen on reaching the Bogoso town, making the logs fall from the truck and landing on the vehicles.
The driver of the timber truck was said to have bolted after the accident.
Police Statement
The Police, in a statement, confirmed that one person died while four others were injured in the accident which involved a DAF truck and five other vehicles.
Police investigation disclosed that the driver of the DAF truck, carrying logs from the Prestea end of the road, upon reaching Bogoso lost control while negotiating a curve with the logs falling on the five other vehicles.
The statement said personnel of the MTTD of the Police service rushed to the scene to ensure that the road was open to traffic.
It added that personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service were also there to assist in the rescuing of the victims who were trapped in the accident vehicles.
The police pointed out efforts were underway to get the driver of the DAF truck, who is on the run, arrested to face justice.
