The Upper East Regional Police Command has issued a statement announcing a possible mass burial of some 27 unidentified and uncollected bodies at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga.
According to the statement, the bodies were conveyed from different locations and deposited by the Ghana Police Service from 2020 to 2023, which are occupying spaces, thereby causing a situation where new cases may be difficult to preserve.
The police has given the opportunity for persons who may have lost relatives and those who do not know the whereabouts of relatives to take advantage of this period to get to the Regional Hospital mortuary through the Medical Director, to identify and collect the bodies for burial.
The police has given 21 days after the issuing of the statement, after which all unidentified and uncollected dead bodies will be buried in a mass burial, so as to help the Regional Hospital mortuary to operate efficiently.
This is not the first time the police has issued a statement to announce a possible mass burial in the region, and yet the situation keeps coming up, and this could be due to non-communication about some bodies picked up from accident scenes, shoot-outs and street dwellings in the region.
