The Western Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has arrested two people, a 72-year old Eshiem-Ntaama Electoral Area Assembly member, and his Accomplice for allegedly engaging in fake ECG metre business.
The suspect, William Armstrong Arthur, and one Philip Eshun, 60 were arrested upon a tip-off from a customer in Sekondi,
The Western Regional Public Relations Officer of the ECG, Benjamin Quarcoo told DAILY GUIDE that after learning of the alleged criminal activities of the suspects, his outfit called Arthur and feigned interest in his metres.
“After hearing of his activities, we posed as potential customers and called to purchase some of his fake metres. With the help of the police were able to arrest him,” he stated.
He said Philip Eshun whom Arthur named as his accomplice was arrested at his home.
“When we went to Eshun’s house, we found that he had installed three of the fake metres and we arrested him. They are currently in the custody of the Sekondi Police, who is conducting further investigations into the matter,” he pointed out.
“We applaud the informant and other customers for being good citizens and assisting us in arresting such persons who steal our conductors and other materials that we use for our work,” he added.
The Regional ECG PRO cautioned fake ECG metre dealers to desist from such illegal activities adding, “we will not stop pursuing them until we are sure that there is none left in the system.”
