Alban Bagbin Slams Judiciary, Executive Over Parliamentary Interference

Alban Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has issued a stark warning, accusing the Judiciary and Executive of undermining the authority of Parliament.

This alarming claim comes amidst a growing power struggle between the three arms of government.

Background of the Conflict

The controversy surrounds the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on four parliamentary seats initially declared vacant by Bagbin.

He contends this decision impinges on Parliament’s authority, sparking concerns over the separation of powers.

Bagbin’s Concerns

“The judiciary and executive’s recent actions directly challenge the jurisdiction and powers of Parliament,” Bagbin stated.

He emphasized that Ghana’s democratic foundation is at risk, warning that these developments could disrupt the country’s constitutional order.

Call for Balance

Alban Bagbin reflected on the 2020 elections, noting that voters rejected a winner-takes-all approach in favor of a more balanced system.

He argued that this balance was intended to promote national interests over partisan agendas.
