A peaceful Election Day in Ayomso, a community in the Ahafo Region, was shattered when a New Patriotic Party (NPP) officer was brutally assaulted by a group of individuals believed to be associated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The attack, which left the victim severely injured, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the safety of voters and election officials.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack was carried out by a group known locally as “Salifu 11,” led by a notorious individual identified as Ango. Ango, who has a history of violence, was previously accused of firing gunshots during the 2024 limited voter registration exercise in Kukuom.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with leaders of the NPP in the region calling for immediate police intervention to apprehend the perpetrators.
“This kind of violence has no place in our democratic process,” a concerned voter at one of the polling stations stated. “It’s terrifying and unacceptable.”
Despite the tensions, voting continues across Ayomso and other parts of the country, with security agencies closely monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile the electoral officials have assured the public that measures are being taken to safeguard the process and ensure that eligible voters can cast their ballots without fear.
