The team, tasked with facilitating a seamless transfer of power from the outgoing administration to the incoming government, comprises seasoned professionals and experienced leaders from various sectors.

The transition team is mandated to engage with representatives of the outgoing government to ensure a smooth political and administrative transition, reflecting Ghana’s democratic principles.

Members of the 2024 Transition Team include Julius Debrah, Co-Chairperson, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary, and Dr. Valerie Sawyer.

Other members include Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Mahama Ayariga, Goosie Tanoh and Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

The President-Elect has also nominated Former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho as a member of the transitional advisory council to provide strategic guidance throughout the process.

President-Elect Mahama emphasised the importance of a collaborative approach in ensuring the continuity of governance.

“This transition team reflects the expertise and dedication required to facilitate an efficient and peaceful transfer of power. Together, we will uphold Ghana’s democratic traditions and prepare the nation for the next phase of progress and development,” he stated.

The team will focus on critical areas, including finance, governance, and public administration, to ensure that the new government hits the ground running.

Early Transition

Speaking in his acceptance address on Monday, December 9, 2024, Mr. Mahama disclosed that outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo had personally called to congratulate him and pledged full cooperation in ensuring a smooth handover of power.

“We had the opportunity to discuss matters related to the joint transitional team. We agreed on an early inauguration of the team, as early as Wednesday, December 11,” he said.

He added, “I conveyed my sincerest regards and expressed my readiness for us to work together to ensure a smooth transition in the best interest of the Ghanaian people.”

Observers see the agreement as a commitment to Ghana’s democratic traditions, where transitions between administrations have been orderly and respectful, even in the face of intense political competition.

The inauguration of the joint transition team will mark the beginning of a critical phase as Mahama prepares to assume office on January 7, 2025.

With expectations high, the incoming administration is under pressure to deliver on its promises and chart a new course for the country.

“Let us set the tone for the new direction we must travel,” Mr. Mahama stated.

“Together, we will work to build a Ghana that works for everyone. Our best days are ahead of us,” he asserted.
