Ghanaian Student Returns Home Over Forged Transcript

Evans Oppong, an old student of Prempeh College in the Ashanti Region, has returned to Ghana over an alleged forged transcript at Lehigh University.

A post on X confirmed that all charges against him have been dropped, “Special thanks to ANA, NEC, the Lehigh African Students Union and all the Old Boys of Prempeh College and Opoku Ware School alumni whose support and unity made this possible.

“It was no easy journey, but together, we stood strong – and now, all the boys have been released,” the post read.

He was one of the three contestants who led Prempeh College to lift the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) trophy, and defeated Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School and Keta Senior High Technical School in the finals of the competition.

His admission to Lehigh University was announced by a non-profit organisation, the Ckodon Foundation, on its X page. With a scholarship worth $312,776, equivalent to GH¢3.7 million, Evans was to pursue a Bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science.

Evans Oppong and three other Ghanaian students identified as Otis Opoku, Cyrilstan Sowah-Nai, and Henry Dabuo were arrested and charged with theft of services and forgery, for allegedly submitting forged high school transcripts to gain admission to Lehigh University.
