Residents of Aboabo in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region were thrown into a state of shock after the body of an unidentified young man was found dead in a drain.
The deceased, believed to be in his 20s, was discovered on Friday, January 30, 2026, during a visit by journalists to the area. The body was found naked, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Confirming the incident, the Unit Committee Member for the Aboabo Extension Electoral Area, Sumaila Dauda, said the condition of the body suggested the young man may have been lynched before being dumped into the drain. He noted that he rushed to the scene after receiving information about the discovery, and observed signs indicating the victim had been severely assaulted.
Mr. Dauda expressed concern over the incident, revealing that similar cases had been recorded in the area in the past. He called on the appropriate authorities to step up security measures and intensify public education to curb mob justice in the community.
The police have since conveyed the body to the morgue for preservation and autopsy, and have launched investigations to unravel the circumstances leading to the death and bring the perpetrators to justice.
