A Blacks Star team
Ghana national football team, the Black Stars will play an international friendly against Mexico national football team in May as part of their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The match is intended to give both sides another opportunity to evaluate player options ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted across Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Officials say the game will help coaches fine-tune their squads and assess selection candidates under competitive conditions.
Ghana’s squad is expected to feature a blend of players drawn from the domestic league and various European competitions being monitored by head coach Otto Addo and his technical team. Several U-23 players in contention for upcoming Olympic qualifiers are also set to be considered.
The friendly is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, at a venue in Mexico yet to be announced. It will form part of a broader preparation schedule, with additional matches planned shortly afterward against two other opponents.
The Mexico fixture becomes Ghana’s third confirmed preparatory match, following earlier announcements of friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team during the next FIFA international window in March. A squad list for those games is expected to be released in the coming days.
At the World Cup, Mexico are set to open their campaign against South Africa national football team on June 11, before facing other Group A opponents still to be finalized.
Ghana, meanwhile, will begin their tournament run against Panama national football team on June 17, followed by Group L clashes with England national football team and Croatia national football team, as they target a strong showing at the global competition.
