Rapper Kwaw Kese has joined growing calls for the release of Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, who is facing extradition to the United States.

Speaking on stage during Gomoa Street Carnival on April 6, 2026, Kwaw Kese paused his set to appeal to authorities, echoing similar calls made by Shatta Wale.

“Free Abu Trica, free Abu… There are no jobs in Ghana, but when the boys rack their brains to earn dollars, you see the government reacting in a certain way… Free Abu Trica,” he told the crowd.

Meanwhile, the Gbese District Court has approved a request to hand Frederick Kumi over to U.S. authorities over his alleged involvement in an $8 million online romance scam.

However, the court has given his legal team 15 days to challenge the decision, temporarily halting the extradition process to allow for a possible habeas corpus application.

The court also dismissed claims by the defence that the case is politically motivated or a result of entrapment.

Kumi was re-arrested by the Narcotics Control Commission after earlier charges against him were withdrawn in January 2026. Prosecutors later filed fresh charges, including money laundering and conspiracy to defraud.

According to U.S. investigators, he is alleged to have been part of a network that used fake online identities to target elderly victims, convincing them to send money and valuables.

The case remains ongoing as legal proceedings continue.
