THE GREATER Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in consultation with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced the reopening of beaches in the region ahead of the New Year holidays.
According to REGSEC, reopening beaches for the Christmas and new year festivities is with immediate effect.
REGSEC, on Friday, December 24, 2021 issued a statement directing that all beaches within the region be closed to the public after series of deliberations by members and stakeholders.
This new directive will however require management of the various beaches to operate a ‘No vaccination, no entry policy’ where persons who visit the beaches must show proof of vaccination before being granted entry.
Unvaccinated person who wish to patronise any of the beaches will also be required to undergo mandatory vaccination upon arrival at the beaches by officials of the Ghana Health Service who would be stationed there.
The move to close beaches formed part of measures by the regional authorities in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service to contain and curtail the spread and impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the region following reports of the increased spread of the Omicron Virus, the new variant of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region and other parts of the country.
The Regional Minister, Henry Quartey who chaired the meeting urged managers of the beaches to ensure that all safety protocols are strictly adhered to while ensuring that the facilities do not get overcrowded.
He also urged security agencies to see to it that the implementation of the directive is carried out effectively.
