Ghana’s female relay team
Ghana’s capital, Accra, comes alive today with the excitement of top-class athletics as the Confederation of Africa Athletics Region II Championship gets underway at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Athletes from across the region, including host country Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Gabon, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire, have all converged in Accra to compete in various events, including sprints, distance races, hurdles, relays, and field events.
Ghana’s team, will be seeking Olympic qualification in relays and individual events against stiff competition from their West African neighbours.
The team has been training intensively and is determined to make their home advantage count.
Gambia’s Gina Barnes and other top West African athletes have hopes of qualifying to the Paris 2024 Olympics through the CAA Region II Athletics in Accra.
The two-day event promises to be a thrilling display of speed, strength, and endurance, with some of the region’s best athletes battling it out for medals and glory.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, the President of the Ghana Athletics, Fuseini Bawah, officials of African Athletics and other dignitaries are expected to grace the championship.
The championship is open to the public for free at 9am and 3pm on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Legon stadium.
The CAA Region II Athletics Championship is powered by Ghana Athletics with support from Verna Water, Zoomlion and Imax Media Group.
