Sarah Adwoa Sarfo
Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome/Kwabenya and Minister of State in-charge of Procurement, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, has instituted a loan scheme for women groups within her constituency.
The MP intends to use the scheme, which is in fulfillment of her 2016 campaign pledge, to cushion the women in their respective businesses so as to help improve their standard of living.
Over 100 women in the constituency, DAILY GUIDE gathered, have each been given a loan of GHC500 under phase one of the initiative, which started on Monday, June 12, this year.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a ceremony on Monday to offer support to the women, Second Vice-Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mary Odonkor, said the soft loan would help the numerous women to address challenges facing women in the constituency.
According to her, “They (women) have been coming to the Honorable Deputy Majority Leader’s office with all kinds of problems ranging from school fees, rent, hospital bills, start-up capital, among others.”
“So Adwoa Sarfo sat down with the constituency executives to analyze all these and she came out with this initiative to assist them with this soft loan. All of them are already working so this money is meant to cushion them a bit, and we believe that it will go a long way to improve their standard of living,” she added.
She indicated that the initiative was one of the campaign promises that Adwoa Sarfo made to the women during the electioneering campaign in 2016.
Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries, Margaret Addae, in a brief remark after receiving the loan, expressed her delight about the intervention.
She said she would use the loan to expand her business to enable her take care good of her children.
