The National Dance Company, Azaguno Inc., National Drama Company, National Symphony Orchestra and other international artistes will perform ‘Agoro’ at the National Theatre in Accra on Thursday, June 28 to Saturday, June 30
‘Agoro’ is a concert of new African music, dance and dramatic sketches that will mark the silver jubilee of the National Theatre.
Undeniably, it is equally a moving/eclectic work that was inspired by African history, culture and creative arts. Presented by the National Theatre, Azaguno Inc. and the Ohio University with Prof Paschal Younge (composer), Prof Zelma Badu-Younge (choreographer), Mawuli Semevor (director of drama), Isaac Annor (conductor) and Nii Tete Yartey (artistic director), the performance is expected to be a unique theatrical experience for the arts loving public.
Featuring the National Fire Service Band, Bi-Tonic Singers and the Duakwa Youth Brass Band together with Sashar Zarif (Canada), Dr Kris Olsen, Dr Jen Petrie, Mustapha Braimah, Gabriela Bliss (USA), among others, ‘Agoro’ will also include a tribute performance for late directors of the National Theatre.
As part of the programme, a three-day symposia and workshops titled ‘Arts, Health & Wellness’, will be organised in collaboration with the Ministries of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Health, Education, Youth & Sports, as well as Gender, Children and Social Protection.
They are expected to create fora for the intellectual exchange of ideas, concepts and recommendations to aid artists, students, arts teachers, educators, sports enthusiasts, health workers, policy makers and others. The Enterprise Group, Ohio University, Prestige Hotel, GTP, Pgees Catering and Azaguno Inc are supporting the performance.
