Airport Company Boss Wins Aviation Award

The Chief Executive of Ghana Airport Company Limited, Charles Asare, has been nominated for Aviation Personality of the Year award at this year’s Balafon awards ceremony to be held in Accra on Friday, July 15 2016.

The awards ceremony, which is part of the Accra Weizo event, will take place at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel and is expected to attract many stakeholders in the aviation and tourism sectors in Ghana and West Africa as a whole.

Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts, will also receive the Tourism Man of the Year Award.

The Balafon Awards, according to organizers, target people in travel business in West Africa.

The award winners were selected through public vote after judges, comprising journalists from Nigeria and Ghana and Travel Experts, presented a shortlist of contenders in the various categories.

Selected Winners

Various institutions and personalities nominated from Ghana and Nigeria to receive awards at the event include Labadi Beach Hotel, Emirates Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, and Arik Airlines, Eko Hotel and Suites Lagos-Nigeria, Transcorp Hilton Hotel-Nigeria.

Others are Ben Ayade, Governor of Cross River State and Muneer Alade Bankole, MD of Medview Airlines.

Accra Weizo

Accra Weizo is an event put together by the organizers of Akwaaba African Travel Market with support from the Ministry of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts. It debuted last year.

The 2016 edition themed: ‘Seamless Travels in West Africa’ will include a session during which West Africa as a single destination would be discussed.

Henock Teferra, Managing Director of ASKY Airlines in Lome, Togo, a guest speaker at the event, will speak on the topic “the Challenges of Running a Successful Regional Airline in West Africa, at the event.

Other speakers at this year’s event are the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aero Contractors Limited, Captain Fola Akinkuotu and the Vice Chairman of SAHCOL Chike Ogeah.
