Dr. Kwesi Owusu
‘Ama’, a film directed by Dr. Kwesi Owusu and Nii Kwate Owoo, will be screened at the Goethe-Institut in Accra on Thursday, February 7.
The film, which was shot in 1991, is the story of an irrepressible 12-year-old who becomes a medium for an ancestral prophecy and visitation.
She finds a computer disc by a lake in the English countryside, which contains startling information. Consequently, the ancestors reveal who she really is and sends her on a ‘mission’ to save her father from death and her brother from an impending disaster.
Both Ama and her mother do everything in their power to persuade them to do the right thing but to no avail.
Currently the director of School of Creative Arts, African University College of Communications (Accra) and Creative Storm Ghana, Dr. Owusu is a highly experienced expert in communications and social marketing with over 25 years of experience working with creative industries.
He was a senior director of Jubilee 2000, one of the most successful global marketing campaigns of all time.
Presently a member of the board of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Dr. Owusu has been a producer and director of a number of several notable film projects.
He was the managing editor at Ecrans d’Afrique (Pan-African Federation of Film Producers) and was the founder and head of the Media Research Unit, Institute of African Studies (University of Ghana) from 1978 to 2002.
Goethe-Institut Ghana is supporting the screening, which will also feature a presentation by Dr. Owusu, as well as a Q & A session.
