Ayawaso Probe: Vigilante Groups Owe Allegiance To Individuals Not Parties

The Hawks

IT HAS emerged that political vigilante groups in the country do not belong to the various political parties but by individuals.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam George, said vigilante groups owe allegiance to individuals with political agenda and not to political parties.

He was testifying before the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry on Monday, February 25, 2019.

The commission is probing the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election shooting incident which occurred on January 31, 2019 at La Bawaleshie.

He alleged that some individuals in political parties were those setting up vigilante groups for political purposes of power.

According to the MP, political parties were only being used as vehicles and that they end up benefitting from vigilantism.

Lydia Alhassan

Meanwhile, MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, could not appear before the commission on Monday, February 25 as scheduled.

She was due to appear before the commission after Sam George, but the commission announced later that it was adjourning proceedings to Tuesday, February 26.
