Barcelona Beat Sevilla To Win Spanish Super Cup

Arda Turan scored twice as Barcelona eased to a 3-0 second-leg win against Sevilla to secure the Spanish Super Cup by a 5-0 aggregate following Sunday’s first leg.

After a nervy start that saw Sevilla almost score in the third minute through Wissam Ben Yedder, Luis Enrique’s team picked up where they left off in the second half of their 2-0 first leg win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

An intricate build-up between Denis Suarez and Lionel Messi sprang Turan in the Sevilla penalty area where the Turkey international calmly slotted home a right-footed shot to open the scoring.

Minutes later, Messi narrowly missed out on doubling Barca’s lead, but his first-time shot from 18 yards following a laid off pass from Aleix Vidal was just wide to the left of goal.

Sevilla had their best chance to equalise in the 31st minute following a handball in the penalty area by Samuel Umtiti, but Vicente Iborra’s right-footed shot from the spot was blocked away by Claudio Bravo.

Just before half-time, Mariano found Gabriel Mercado on the left side of the penalty area, but his headed shot over Bravo was denied by the crossbar and Barcelona took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room.

Any chance Sevilla had of fighting back in the tie were squashed minutes into the second half when Turan curled a perfect first-time shot in from distance over Sergio Rico’s head to make it 2-0.

Messi piled on the woe for Jorge Sampaoli’s team in the 55th minute, leaping to meet a Lucas Digne cross and heading home to put Barcelona up by three goals.

Barcelona finished the match with 10 men after Javier Mascherano was forced off injured and Luis Enrique had already used all three of his substitutes.

The win means Luis Enrique has now won every trophy possible with Barcelona as manager.

The Blaugrana begin their Primera Division campaign on Saturday at home against Real Betis.
