Bawumia Loses Cured Leper Old Lady

The 85-year-old cured leper who was abandoned by her family at Motori in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region and the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, built, furnished and formally handed over a two-bedroom house to her is reported dead.

The late Daari Pogo was forced to live in a dilapidated 5 meters by 6-meter mud hut with her granddaughter Adjara after her abandonment.

Dr Bawumia upon hearing immediately mobilised resources and within six weeks, built and furnished a two-bedroom house for Madam Pogo.

At a brief ceremony to formally hand over the building on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Vice President Bawumia said the smiles on the faces of Daari Pogo and her granddaughter Adjara were enough to gladden anyone’s heart.

On Mother’s Day, two weeks ago, the Vice President stormed her residence to pay a visit to her.

She reportedly died on Wednesday morning, as the cause of her death is unknown yet.

Dr Bawumia in a post on his Facebook page said I have received with sadness, the death of my 85-year-old friend, Madam Daari Pogo, a cured leper, whose deplorable conditions in Gurungu Motori in the Wa West Municipality became a national conversation and I provided her with a 2-bedroom house.

“I thank God for being able to put a smile on her face in the last years of her life. May Madam Daari’s soul rest in peace” Dr. Bawumia said in a condolence message to his late friend’s family.
