Boy, 5, Drowns In Kumasi

Professional swimmers searching for the body of the deceased

People living near the Airport Roundabout in Kumasi mourned the death of a five year-old boy got drowned in a stream in the area.

The deceased, whose identity has not been established by DAILY GUIDE, was said to have slipped into the stream while walking home with another person.

The incident happened on Saturday around 6pm after torrential rains hit most parts of Kumasi.

“He was walking along the stream with someone, who is older than him; the five year-old boy slipped and fell heavily into the big stream.

“All efforts by people at the scene to help save the life of the boy proved futile,” an eyewitness said.

Another eyewitness, who gave his name as Wofa Kofi, said “the banks of the stream became slippery due to the rains and that led to the unfortunate incident.

The paper gathered that scores of people quickly rushed to the accident scene.

Most of the people that gathered along the stream were women who shed tears.

Professional swimmers who were quickly engaged to help save the boy were unsuccessful.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that firefighters and other security agents were called to the scene to retrieve the body of the deceased.

As at press time, there were no reports of the retrieval of the body from the stream.
