Inset: Arc. Robert Fraikue facilitating at the workshop
An introductory workshop to register and categorize building design technicians, technologists and draughtsmen in the country towards licensure has been held in the Northern part of the country.
The workshop was organized by the National Board of Control for Building Design Technicians & Draughtsmen under the auspices of the Architects Registration Council (ARC) and the Ministry of Works and Housing (MWH).
The workshop is part of a nationwide road show being organized to sensitize the building design technicians on an ongoing exercise to register and categorize them towards licensure.
The first one was held in Accra and later in Cape Coast and then Ho in the Volta Regional capital.
A team, led by the Registrar of the Architects Registration Council (ARC) of Ghana, Arc. Stella N.D. Arthiabah, and the Principal Assistant Registrar of ARC, Arc. Robert Fraikue, made its first stop last week in Kumasi, where participants were educated on the need to be registered and licensed, requirements and the process for registration, categorization of members based on educational standing and experience and finally the continuous educational curricular.
The team travelled to Sunyani and then to Tamale and finally to Bolgatanga.
Ms Arthiabah reiterated that the formation of the National Board of Control for Building Design Technicians & Draughtsmen was government’s response to the call by key industry players and the general public, such as the Association of Building Technicians (ABT) and the Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA) to promote professionalism in the building and construction industry.
She said the sensitization workshop and the entire project towards licensure was timely, observing that most participants gave a positive response and were willing to be regulated to do the right thing.
Mrs. Arthiabah cautioned building design technicians, technologists and draughtsmen operating without license to contact the ARC Secretariat for registration, announcing that by January 2020, it shall be an offence to practice in Ghana without a license.
