The much anticipated assault case involving maverick boxer, Briamah Kamoko aka Bukom Banku, could not be heard by an Accra Central District Magistrate Court yesterday.
The reason was that the police had not been able to serve the accused (Bukom Banku) with the criminal sermons to appear before the court.
The boxer, who has gained notoriety for public misconduct, has always received political protection from the ‘powers-that-be,’ having openly described himself as an activist of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), making him ‘untouchable.’
It is, however, not clear if the case would be heard today, as there are no indications that the police have served Bukom Banku with the said court papers.
The boxer-turned-musician was said to have slapped twice a hairdresser, Martha Nelson, who lives at Chorkor in Accra on August 11 before punching her in the right ribs.
The accused was expected to be in court over causing unlawful damage to a Nokia mobile phone valued GH¢40 belonging to Martha Nelson, the complainant.
Bukom Banku, who allegedly slapped and punched the lady for refusing him a kiss, has also been charged with assault.
In the assault case, the avowed supporter of the John Dramani Mahama 2016 presidential bid, is reported to have in James Town, Accra slapped Martha for refusing to kiss him (Bukom Banku).
This is not the first time the boxer has been reported for allegedly assaulting women.
In March, this year, the Accra Regional Police Command arrested him for assaulting three ladies after one of them had reportedly rejected his request for sex.
He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of GH¢5,000 with two sureties.
In January, last year, Bukom Banku was again arrested for allegedly inflicting physical harm on some persons after a disagreement at the Kpashimo procession at Gbese, also in Accra.
In the latest case, sources say at about 2:40 pm on August 11, this year, Banku went to Martha’s hairdressing saloon, held her and requested that she kiss him.
Martha reportedly resisted Banku’s proposal and without any cause, he slapped her twice and punched her in the ribs.
Banku allegedly collected the complainant’s Nokia phone and hit it on the ground, causing damage to it.
The accused reportedly told Martha that her phone was inferior and that he would buy her a Galaxy phone and left the scene.
A complaint was then lodged with the police which led to the arrest of Banku, who was charged with the offences.
Previous arrests did not go far because of political interventions.
