Abubakari Jamilo with the suspected slaps of wee
A 32-year-old disabled (cripple) man has been apprehended in possession of 38 slaps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp also known as Wee.
Abubakari Jamilo, the suspect, had concealed the illegal substance under a Niger-bound bus at the newly constructed Asawase Market in Kumasi.
Acting on a tip-off, the Ashanti Regional Police Criminal Investigations Operations team stormed the place and arrested the suspect and seized the narcotic substance.
A police source stated: “When we arrived at the station on Saturday morning, the bus was parked with the substance concealed under it.”
The source said the police ordered the driver, Ibrahim Mumuni, 38, to move the bus to the station but he said his car had developed a fault so it could not move.
He said the police called for a towing car and whilst waiting for the car, Abubakari Jamilo appeared at the scene and the driver pointed him as the owner of the substance.
He said Abubakari Jamilo, the main suspect, Ibrahim Mumuni, the driver, and one other person, identified as Adamu Issaka, 48, were arrested.
He said the bus was eventually towed to the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters and upon a thorough search, 38 slaps of suspected Wee were found under it.
The source said that the three suspects had been detained and the bus impounded, pending investigation.
The Ashanti Regional Police Drug Law Enforcement Unit had taken over the case and the suspects would be arraigned soon.
