Doctors Defend Obengfo Hospital

Dr. Dominic Obeng-Andoh

The Private Medical Professionals Association has thrown its weight behind Dr. Dominic Obeng-Andoh, the Director of Obengfo Hospital, who has been remanded into custody for the death of Stacy Offei-Darko, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Entrepreneurship Innovative Programme (NEIP).

The group denied claims that Dr. Obeng-Andoh has been operating a medical facility without licence, saying such an assertion must be rejected by the public.

Speaking to an Accra-based Atinka FM, Dr. Isaac Morrison, President of the association, stated that Dr. Obeng-Andoh, who is a product of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Medical School, has been practicing for the past 20 years as a doctor in the country.

He revealed that the Obengfo Hospital boss was put on the permanent register of medical practitioners by the Medical and Dental Council in 2000 after completing his house job.

He, therefore, rejected claims that Dr. Obeng-Andoh is a quack medical practitioner as speculated and urged the public to wait for the court to handle the matter.

He pointed out that the association is not defending Dr. Obeng-Andoh because he is one of them but rather vouched for his integrity and qualification.

He indicated that the fact that a patient lost his or her life does not mean the doctor is a bad one or quack.

Hospital Records

Meanwhile, records at the Obengfo Hospital indicate that that was not the first time the late Stacy Offei-Darko had visited the facility.

According to the records, she has been frequenting the Advanced Body Sculpt Centre since 2014 for regular check-ups in preparation for her first liposuction surgery which was done in 2017.

The records cast doubt on her mother’s assertion that Ms. Offei-Darko went to the hospital for malaria treatment.

The record also showed that the deceased on May 27, 2017 did several liposuction surgeries at Obengfo Hospital which were successful.

Per the records, areas for the surgery included “Upper back, mid back, lower back, waist, upper abdomen, lower abdomen and love handles.

It also showed that the deceased consented to all the surgical procedures undertaken by Dr. Obeng-Andoh which were witnessed by one Debora.

This was contained in the hospital’s Patient’s Consent and Release statement.
