FHU Graduates 318 Health Professionals

Family Health University (FHU) has graduated 318 students who undertook programmes in various health disciplines at a ceremony held in Accra.

Out of 318 graduands, 73 students graduated from its Medical School, 30 of which number were awarded Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences  degree while the remaining 43 were awarded Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree.

Two hundred and forty-five (245) also graduated from the school of Nursing and Midwifery, with  111 receiving  a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, 64  Bachelor of Science degree in Midwifery and 70 Nurse Assistant Clinical.

The event, held under the theme, “Building Bridges and Raising Ladders for the Next Generation of Healthcare Providers,” brought together distinguished individuals including some Members of Parliament, retired judges, the clergy, traditional leaders and medical professionals.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Enyonam Yao Kwawukume, Founder and Vice Chancellor of Family Health University, applauded the graduands for their resilience, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

He also expressed gratitude for their willingness not only to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s pursuit of accessible and quality healthcare, but embracing a profession that demands not only knowledge and skills but empathy, compassion, and dedication to service.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted the university’s steady growth, including the recruitment of competent faculty, expansion of lecture halls, acquisition of additional vehicles for clinical rotations, and ongoing construction of student hostels, office spaces, and more learning facilities.

 

 

Prof. Kwawukume, who emphasised the importance of international partnerships in strengthening research and academic exchange, highlighted the university’s longstanding collaboration with the University of Virginia (UVA) that has continued to yield results.

He said the two institutions are currently conducting research on adolescent sexual and reproductive health in the Greater Accra and Volta regions.

Prof. Kwawukume reaffirmed the university’s mission to train competent and ethical professionals capable of addressing health challenges, while calling on stakeholders to continue to support the institution’s growth and community impact.

Acting Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) who was the guest of honour, Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong, commended the graduands for their dedication and encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of service.

He also urged them to lift others as they progress as healthcare professionals, and serve as bridges between “pain and healing, despair and hope,” while commending the leadership of Family Health University for training health professionals who will not only be grounded in their practice but support humanity as well.

He further lauded the leadership and faculty for shaping professionals grounded in humanity and leadership, families and guardians for their sacrifices.

Bediako Felicity Akunor Dede, emerged as the valedictorian for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), four other valedictorians in various disciplines were also presented with various prizes for their exceptional academic performances.
