The First Sky Group Presenting A Dummy Cheque To Rev Asante Antwi
First Sky Group, a conglomerate of three Ghanaian companies, has donated a cheque of GH¢1 million towards the construction of the National Cathedral.
The National Cathedral project is part of the legacy projects of the country’s 60th Independence Anniversary Committee.
When completed, the national worship centre would be interdenominational and host national events such as funeral and burial services, as well as private activities.
Although a section of Ghanaians have criticized the idea of constructing the cathedral in the face of the financial difficulties facing the country, First Sky Group’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Eric Seddy Kutortse, has stated that President Akufo-Addo’s decision is not misplaced.
According to him, it was in the spirit of supporting this noble cause that the group made the donation.
It also marks First Sky Group’s 15th Anniversary, which is under the theme, “Declaring 15 Years of God’s Faithfulness.”
The donation was ministered by the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Dr Paul Frimpong Manso.
Apart from the cheque, the Group has also donated 50 tonnes of iron rods, 4,000 bags of cement and other items towards the project.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Most Reverend Samuel Asante-Antwi, Chairman of the Board, expressed gratitude to the company and prayed for it to grow bigger.
He said the president is an ordinary person but doing extraordinary things in the country.
Rev Asante-Antwi indicated that the donation was a challenge to other institutions, citizens (home and abroad) to donate gloriously towards the construction of the national cathedral.
First Sky Group has in the past years played significant roles in addressing some of the social and environmental issues of the country through its social responsibility programme.
In December 2016, the group paid GH¢600,000 to defray debts of patients at the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
It also adopted the unit and donated an amount of GH¢2 million as an endowment fund for the treatment of all patients on dialysis; and further gave out an additional GH¢2 million in July, 2017 to the unit.
First Sky Group has pledged to use 30 percent of its income-after-tax to cater for orphans and the needy throughout the country till 2020.
