Ghana Gas Company Limited (GGCL) has made donations worth GH¢110,000 to two major hospitals in the capital.

Led by Dr. Bernard Asante, Chief Executive Officer of GGCL, the delegation donated an amount of GH¢60,000 to the Child Health Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) and GH¢40,000 to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

In a press briefing at the Child Health Department of KBTH, Dr. Asante said his outfit is aware of the challenges being faced by the department in terms of funding.

“This [the donation] is just a modest gesture to say we are with you in the efforts you are making [to save lives] and we are encouraging you to overcome all your challenges,” he urged.

Prof. Ebenezer Baidoo, Head of the Child Health Department at the KBTH, expressed his gratitude to GGCL for considering his department as a place of choice for the donation.

He disclosed that 80 per cent of children diagnosed of cancer can be cured, thus, the money can take a lot of the kids through full treatment and hopefully give them a cure.

At the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Asante met and had a brief discussion with the management of the facility, after which he presented a dummy check of GH¢40,000 to them.

In his remarks, Dr. Asante said he was inspired by learning some of the problems being faced by the hospital on TV and so had come there with his team to “sow a seed” in the facility with the hope that it yields and bears positive fruits in the near future.

The Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Pinaman Appau, expressed their immense gratitude to GGCL and said it was a “pleasant surprise” when they had a call notifying them of their intent to visit the facility.

She assured that the funds would help them in taking care of some basic needs of the facility such as the refurbishment of one of the oldest wards at the hospital which has never seen renovation since it was put up.

Mr. Asante, together with his team, were taken round some of the wards and facilities at both hospitals, where they interacted with some patients.
