WORKERS HAVE been assured of government’s commitment in ensuring that their interests are protected despite the harsh economic environment which has been triggered by many external factors.
Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah who stated this noted that government acknowledges the fact that the country is currently facing some economic difficulties.
He was reacting to the incessant calls by some public sector workers for improved conditions of service.
“I must admit that, since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, the World Bank has contributed greatly to Ghana’s efforts in containing the situations brought about as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is in the light of this that, Government is ensuring that all Ghanaian workers live the best of their lives despite the general down turn.
“I believe protecting the jobs and incomes of workers within this period depends not only on the government but on us all,” he added.
He said, “With better bargaining or dialogue I believe things can be turned around and will get better.”
He mentioned that government had already spoken on “cuts” to expenditure. “What cuts are you also making personally to live within your budget and sustain livelihood,” he quizzed.
He added, “Let us be mindful of our operations and activities in our homes and in our work environments in order to manage our inflows and outflows.”
He disclosed that government is on the move to develop a strong database for all sectors; building the skills and competency of both youth and adult.
He said this would help leverage the use of technology to accountably get things done at a fast pace.
He entreated Ghanaians to take opportunity of the digitalised world to acquire knowledge and trade at the comfort of their homes.
He said with introduction of the E-levy, it is expected that the economy will strongly be boosted given the estimated revenue that will be generated.
