In a welcome development, the Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced the restoration of gas supply from the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) to thermal power plants in Tema.
This move brings relief to affected customers, as all previously shutdown power plants have resumed operations, ensuring the return of electricity supply.
The restoration of the gas supply comes after a temporary disruption, which had affected operations at some thermal power plants in Tema, leading to power outages in parts of the country.
The outages had impacted businesses and households, causing inconvenience and disruption to daily life.
However, with the resumed supply of gas from WAPCO, GRIDCo, and ECG have successfully restored operations at all affected power plants, bringing much-needed stability to the national power grid.
The two organizations have assured stakeholders of their commitment to delivering reliable electricity supply to Ghanaians.
In a joint press statement released on Friday, December 13, 2024, GRIDCo and ECG expressed gratitude to customers and stakeholders for their patience during the disruptions caused by the gas supply challenges.
“We thank our stakeholders and customers for their patience and understanding,” they added.
The announcement is expected to ease public concerns over power reliability, especially during the holiday season.
Ghanaians can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that the country’s energy sector is working to ensure a stable supply of electricity.
This development is particularly significant, given the country’s recent history of power outages and energy challenges.
In 2012, Ghana experienced a severe power crisis, which led to widespread outages and disruptions to economic activity.
However, since then, the country has made significant progress in improving its energy infrastructure and increasing power generation capacity.
