Mzbel
Songstress Mzbel has revealed that despite a 20-year career in Ghana’s music industry, she has never won any awards. Rising to fame in 2004 with her debut album Awoso Me, Mzbel quickly became one of Ghana’s leading female artistes, garnering fans not only in Ghana but also in Nigeria, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Kenya.
Speaking in a recent interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, she expressed her disappointment with the lack of formal recognition for her contributions. “I have been in the industry for 20 years; I’ve never received any award,” she stated, suggesting that Ghana is yet to fully celebrate her achievements.
Reflecting on her career, Mzbel admitted, “If I were starting music today, I would put more effort into my branding. The branding wasn’t put together well. I was just put out there without proper branding. I would go on radio and say anything, wear any outfit, and go places I wasn’t supposed to.”
