Former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings, has dismissed claims making the round that he has criticised persons signing a petition to compel President Mahama to give reprieve to the Montie three.
A statement signed by the former Ghanaian leader and copied Myjoyonline.com says such comments circulating on social
media especially Facebook are “false and a total fabrication.”
Mr Rawlings has been quoted on social media as mocking persons who are signing a petition to have the President of Ghana activate his powers in Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution to give reprieve to the custodial sentences of a presenter, Salifu Maase popularly known as Mugabe and two presenters, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn after they were convicted by the Supreme Court (SC) for contempt.
He is alleged to have suggested persons signing the petition to be sent to the Ridge Psychiatry Hospital to find out if they are in the best frame of mind.
“Mahama is never going to accept a petition signed by these people. Never at all,” he is alleged to have said.
Supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed their dissatisfaction to what they believe is the attempt by the party’s founder to dwindle the fortune of President Mahama in the upcoming December polls.
Bringing excitement to the party faithful, the NDC founder says he has not, on any platform, commented on the conviction of the three men.
He also used the opportunity to caution persons using his image to design opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) generated graphics and flyers to desist from such acts forthwith.
