Irresponsible Coup Rhetoric

Raymond Atuguba

Those who seek to rob the judiciary of its dignity as an institution embodying the rule of law are on a tendentious course.

Some of such persons are lawyers who should know better the implication of embarking on such a treasonable path. This is another drawback of excessive quest for political power. It blinds those gunning for such power and in the end, pushes them to engage in a manner not congruous with their positions.

They do not mean any good for the country and would rather the worst happen to the country they claim to love as their motherland.

It is regrettable that such persons turn round to create the impression of inordinate persecution of their ilk when they spew unsubstantiated allegations on public officials.

It is part of a game-plan to push the enforcers of the laws of the country to action as allowed by the law so they can turn round and cry foul as they have persistently done since they embarked upon this phase of attrition.

All of a sudden, there is coup rhetoric and thinking that this is originating from a particular corner of the political spectrum, is rich.

Juxtaposing this with the recent arrest of a man who said he would organise a government overthrow prompts the question as to whether or not those on that tangent do not have faith any longer in the democratic system?

Ghana belongs to all her citizens and with democracy birthing the government at the helm, no amount of coup rhetoric will stop state institutions from doing their work.

It is defeatist to pray for a putsch in a country such persons harbour the intention to rule someday.

The judiciary and indeed other institutions which support it in the law administration chain such as the Police, among others, should continue to discharge their mandates.

As for the many ranting from the rabble rousers, we have not seen the end of them yet. The consolation is that the good people of this country and they are many, would not fold their arms for diabolic and selfish persons to attempt any treasonable acts.

The change of governments in this beautiful country will remain only through the ballot box. Any act to the contrary will not be tolerated.

A few days, they even marched to the Commonwealth with a petition about a so-called persecution.

The only Kangaroo courts we ever had in this country was when the NDC’s forebear, PNDC, was at the helm.

To hell with the coup rhetoric, democracy will prevail.
