One of the students leaving the Kwadaso Agriculture School on Tuesday
Students of the Kwadaso Agriculture Training School in Kumasi have left campus to express their anger over government’s refusal to pay their monthly allowances.
“We are equally important like nursing and teacher trainees in the country, who are benefiting from sumptuous monthly allowance package from the government, the agric students disclosed.
The agitated students, who have left campus with their belongings, stated categorically that they would rescind their decision and return to school if government meets their demands.
A cross-section of the students that spoke to DAILY GUIDE stressed that the decision to boycott classes is non-negotiable, stating that they would only soften their stance when government pays the allowances to them.
The students, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that they picketed at the Ministry of Agriculture in Accra recently to make their grievances known to officials.
According to them, they have realized that their pressing needs doesn’t bother the appropriate officials, who have blatantly refused to respond positively to the numerous pleas.
They argued that government’s decision to restore the teacher and nursing trainee allowances without paying attention to the needs of the Agric students is a clear sign of injustice at the highest level.
In this regard, the aggrieved agric students urged the government to pay monthly allowances to the Agric students, adding that they are faced with financial constraints just like nursing and teacher trainees.
They said their services are also very crucial in the effective and proper development of the state.
Government should not treat us as if we are not important in the process of nation-building.
The students reiterated that they were fed up with discrimination and the lack of respect for them.
