Bright Atawura receiving his award
THE MUNICIPAL Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwadaso in Kumasi, Eric Assibey, has praised farmers for their invaluable contribution to the country’s economic growth.
According to the MCE, the tireless efforts of farmers ensure availability of food in the markets, stressing that but for farmers, the country would have used huge sums of money to import food.
Mr. Assibey disclosed that the government is determined to develop the agricultural sector, mentioning ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ and free fertiliser as some of government’s interventions, so far.
The Kwadaso MCE therefore entreated farmers to sustain their splendid works for the country, indicating that President John Mahama’s administration has their wellbeing at heart.
Mr. Assibey was speaking during the Municipal Farmers’ Day celebration, which was held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Apatrapa R/C School Park.
Bright Atawura, a farmer from Agric Kokode, was adjudged as the Municipal Best Farmer. He received a tricycle, cutlasses, weedicides, knapsack sprayers, wellington boots and a citation.
The event was themed “Eat Ghana, Feed Ghana and Secure the Future”, clearly emphasising the key roles that farmers play in ensuring food security and enhancing national growth.
The Municipal Agric Director, Mrs. Mavis Agyeiwaa, also lauded farmers for their immense contributions to national development and urged them to sustain their good works.
The Queenmother of Apatrapa, Nana Achiaa Panin, entreated other stakeholders to support government to help make agriculture attractive to young people in the country.
Also awarded by the municipality were best faith-based organisations, schools, physically challenged, and other individuals who exceptionally excelled in agriculture.
