Let’s Think Big – Upper East Regional Minister

Stephen Yakubu

UPPER EAST Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has tasked the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to start thinking big and take steps to execute bigger projects that will beautify Bolgatanga, and also get investors and visitors thinking positively about the region.

According to him, the time has come for the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to be bold in ensuring that people comply with its development plan, hence the need to start educating the public and potential structure owners to always comply with the assembly’s development plan.

“…we also deserve the beautiful projects we see in other areas. I have informed the Municipal Chief Executive that we can also have a place where we can also go and pull trolleys to buy things; a shopping center. I have asked him to think about this, for example the secondary cities.”

“We should stop building toilets and doing small things all the time; we should be very ambitious and be eager to do bigger things. I have asked him to think about these things, so that we can bite even more than we can chew,” Stephen Yakubu said.

The Upper East Regional Minister was addressing assembly workers and some journalists after a tour of the suburbs of the Bolgatanga Municipality.

He said many permanent and temporary structures in the municipality have been built on water ways and areas demarcated as roads, and the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly will have to start sensitising the public, and take steps to demolish all such structures to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

The Bolgatanga Municipality has many revenue opportunities and resources that are yet to be tapped to generate more Internally Generated Funds for developmental projects.

“We need money to do many things in this municipality and raise it to the level that will make us proud as a people. I have informed the Municipal Chief Executive to take advantage of every avenue to generate revenue to execute development projects,” the Regional Minister said.
