John Dramani Mahama
Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has responded to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s recent remarks urging Ghanaians not to vote for him since this will truncate the flow and natural progression of the country.
According to the President, voting back Mr. Mahama will damage the gains made during his tenure, asserting that the ex-President will only run down the country.
The President, who said this during a mini rally at Doboro in the Eastern Region, threw his support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the right man to succeed him.
“This is our election year and the limited registration has started. Anybody who hasn’t registered and is eligible should go and register. This is because your right to vote is your power.
“Also, when the time is up for the voting, our job is simple. The person I defeated and my work since I took over, seems not to please him, I cannot hand over power to such a person. He will destroy whatever we have done when he comes,” he said.
“I am pleading with you to vote for the person I have worked with for the past seven and half years. I have faith in him and I know that he will come and continue the work I have begun as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stressed.
Response
However, in response to President Akufo-Addo’s remarks on social media, Mr. Mahama became enraged, implying satirically that the President has no legitimate legacy to safeguard other than corruption, misgovernance, and arrogance.
Mr. Mahama highlighted the negative effects of President Akufo-Addo’s policies, saying that poverty has increased among Ghanaians in the current administration.
“Of course, I will not protect your ‘legacy’ of corruption, misgovernance, arrogance, ineptitude, bankrupt economy, increased unemployment, and pushing more of our people into the poverty bracket,” he posted on social media.
