The suspect in police custody
Fear and shock have gripped residents of Dicksonkrom, near Ofoase in the Asante Akim South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, after a 21-year-old man allegedly killed his father on a farm.
The suspect, identified only as Louis, is said to have attacked his father, Bartholomew, with a machete following a heated confrontation.
Reports indicate that the deceased, who hailed from the Northern Region but had settled in Dicksonkrom as a farmer, had threatened to disown the suspect over his unruly behaviour and repeated acts of disrespect.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview, local reporter Kwame Amponsah Kakabo revealed that the deceased had earlier complained about his son’s misconduct to a sibling and had warned Louis to reform or risk losing access to his property. The warning, however, allegedly worsened tensions between father and son.
On the day of the incident, Bartholomew had gone to his farm when the suspect reportedly followed him there. Eyewitnesses said Louis hurled insults at his father before attacking him with a sharpened machete. By the time nearby farmers arrived at the scene to intervene, the victim had already been killed.
The suspect was subdued by local farmers and handed over to the Ofoase Police. However, he was later transferred to the Juaso Police Station after angry residents besieged the Ofoase station, threatening instant justice.
A police source at Juaso confirmed that the suspect is in custody and will be arraigned before court.
The brutal killing has left the Dicksonkrom community in shock, with residents demanding swift justice.
