Alhaji Baba Abdulahi handing over the cheque to Dr Lawrence Sereboe
Marhaba FM, the first Hausa-speaking private radio station in Ghana, has raised $7,000 through its medium to support Aliyu Seidu, a patient of the National Cardiothoracic Centre.
The amount, generated through the benevolence of radio listeners, is to cater for the full cost of an open heart surgery to replace a mitral valve which is severely defected.
Thus, the cost for further investigations, surgery, anaesthesia, intensive care, medication and accommodation during the procedure for Seidu has been catered for.
Making the presentation to the management of the centre, Alhaji Baba Abdulahi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marhaba FM, stated that the private entity sees the need to support the less-privileged in society, which is evident in the support given to patients of the centre over the years.
He said when they heard about Seidu’s story, they decided to organise funds for his surgery.
Dr Lawrence Sereboe, Director of National Cardiothoracic Centre, who received the donation on behalf of Seidu’s family, expressed his gratitude to the radio station for their continuous support to the centre’s patients.
He said once the surgery is conducted, Seidu, whose health is deteriorating because of the severely defective mitral valve, can lead a normal life.
Dr Sereboe thanked other organisations who continuously support the centre, but added that more needs to be done as there are hundreds of cardio patients who cannot afford the cost of their treatment.
Aliyu Seidu, who is domiciled in the Northern Region, is expected in Accra soon to undergo the medical procedure.
