Corporal Agbo. Inset: The seized suspected wee
A Military Police personnel who allegedly attempted to transport about 300 parcels of compressed substance suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) from Kpando to Asutuare, has been arrested by a police highway patrol team from the national headquarters.
The suspect, identified as Corporal Agbo, reportedly had the compressed substance concealed in two big bags popularly known as ‘Ghana must Go.’
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicated that Corporal Agbo, who has purportedly been in the trade for some years now, was sending the items to his boss at Asutuare, in the Eastern Region to be supplied to others later.
The patrol team reportedly spotted the vehicle Corporal Agbo was driving Wednesday evening and stopped it.
When a search was conducted in the car, the dry leaves were said to have been packed neatly in the bags inside the booth of the vehicle.
He was immediately handcuffed and arrested by the police for further questioning.
A police source who was part of the team told the paper that when the suspect was interrogated, he allegedly told the police that the items belonged to a senior military officer.
The source said, “Suspect refused to mention the name of the said officer but begged that we let him go.”
The source said it was after the police had told him (suspect) that they were transporting him to the police headquarters for further interrogations that he called the said superior to inform him that he had been arrested.
“Corporal Agbo while pleading suggested that we settle the matter instantly, but we refused and insisted that he be prosecuted for his offence,” the source averred.
The police officer said, “At a point, the suspect called the said superior and told him that we were taking him to the police headquarters and so he should try and call his contact to settle the matter before it gets out of hand.
“Suspect, who spoke in the Ewe language, told his accomplice that he was near Asutuare when the police arrested him.”
In the said telephone conversation, Corporal Agbo was reportedly heard telling the said accomplice that he had begged several times but instead they had taken snapshots of him and were taking them to the media as well.
Meanwhile, checks at the narcotics unit of the police headquarters revealed that Corporal Agbo had been transported to Accra to assist in investigation.
A source from the Military Police Unit also confirmed to the paper that they were waiting for the police to finish with their investigation for them to also carry out their investigation into the matter.
A video of the military police personnel has gone viral after he was spotted transporting the 300 compressed substance on the Asutuare road.
The over two minutes video purportedly captured by the arresting police officers reveal Corporal Agbo pleading constantly that they pardon him and let him go.
