MountCrest Accuses NAB Of Sabotage

One of the scenes during the function

MR, KWAKU Ansa – Asare, the Rector of MountCrest University College, (MCU), has accused the Executive Secretary of the National Accreditation Board, Kwame Dattey and the Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo of working against the interests of his school.

Kwaku Ansa – Asare explained that the decision of the NAB Executive Secretary to place embargo on the admission of fresh students is unlawful.

The Rector who was speaking during the inauguration of 14 new Council Members and the 7th Matriculation ceremony of the school recently on the theme ‘Tackling Affiliation And Accreditation Challenges Facing Private Institutions; The Role of Government,’’ appealed to President Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo to intervene as a matter of urgency.

On June 13, 2016, a Joint Quality Monitoring and Verification Panel of the National Accreditation Board/General Legal Council (NAB/GLC), visited Mountcrest and concluded that the student/staff ratio was beyond the acceptable level and directed the school to revise it before January 31 this year.

But the University contends that before the January 31 deadline, public notices appeared in national newspapers and social media announcing that NAB had placed an embargo on fresh admissions into its Law programmes, adding the Board has deprived the University of the opportunity to rectify the situation as requested in a letter dated November 30, and addressed to them.

The Rector, however, considered NAB’s action as an act of sabotage stating that, “I regret to say that Private Universities see the role of the National Accreditation Board as very oppressive, very divisive and very destructive. I want government to investigate the circumstances that have led to the placing of a ban on the admission of fresh students to Mount Crest University College’s faculty of Law”.

Minister Intervention

Madam Ama Dokua Asiamah – Adeji, Deputy Minister of Information described the rector’s remarks as very unfortunate but promised to convey same to government.

He gave the assurance that NAB under the current administration would not be oppressive and proper structures would be put in place to ensure that all institutions benefit from its operations.

In all 400 freshers were admitted to pursue various programmes.
